Fashion may be something you have not thought of for a while. After all, most of us have spent the majority of the last year at home alone, wearing our sweats. Chances are you have been cutting your own hair, and you are beginning to look like a sheepdog. The vaccine is here, and as we slowly emerge from our protective cocoons, we will find that the fashion designers are ready to make us care about clothes again.
Things are expected to be back to normal in the fall of this year. Fashion designers are getting ready for a return to stores. Most designers created elaborate runway videos this year as opposed to attending the usual in-person fashion shows. You can go to each company’s website to watch the videos they came up with. You will see that mixing fashion genres is very in vogue this year. Designers are using contemporary fabrics for vintage styles of clothing. You will also notice designers combining fantasy with functionality. Here is what a few top designers are offering this year.
Balmain
Balmain is considered to be one of the world’s most luxurious fashion houses. Travel is one of the major themes of the fall/winter collection. You will find elaborately decorated raincoats and denim jackets as well as a pair of sneakers that look like they came from the future.
Creative director Olivier Rousteing told Bazaar Magazine that the designers wanted to capture “the amazing sensation of freedom” that travel gives you.
Highlights of this line include purses that resemble suitcases, a neon jumpsuit, and various cargo pants that would be very comfortable to wear on a plane.
Dior

Ever since the founder Christian Dior opened his first store in 1945, this luxury house has been a leader in the fashion world. Its use of sophisticated styles and the finest materials made it popular with fashionistas everywhere.
The Fall collection emphasizes metallic clothing. Silver is featured prominently, and you will see every style of silver metallic dress in the collection.
Dior is also bringing plaid back for the Autumn and Winter line. The collection includes several plaid suits and mini skirts.
The 2021 collection echoes styles from the 1980s. You will see plenty of neon in the 2021 collection. You will also see bomber jackets and jackboots.
The winter collection features a fairy tale theme from designer Maria Grazia Chiuri entitled Disturbing Beauty. The Collection includes a colorful blouse with sleeves that look like they came off of Snow White’s dress and several lace frocks. The collection features long skirts that look like something Alice would have worn on her adventures in Wonderland.
Givenchy
This luxury French design house is known for its fragrances as much as it is for its clothing. Famous for creating the shirt dress, Givenchy’s brand is simple elegance.
The Fall and Winter collections combine traditional clothing styles with a futuristic look. The line includes quite a few simple tailored outfits in solid colors. There are several jumpsuits in the collection, and basic black is featured prominently. There are also A-line shirts and suits paired with large metallic jewelry. One necklace features large metal rings hanging from a classically feminine chain.
Burberry
Best known for its trench coats, the British-based company was originally focused on outerwear. Today they have a full line of luxury fashions. The Fall/Winter collection features the work of designer Riccardo Tisci’s who said he wanted to honor strong women this year.
Unlike other designers who have chosen to use bold colors this year, Tisci’s garments feature a muted color palette. Burberry fashion tends to be themed around the concept of neutrality.
Models on this year’s runway were dressed in layers. Many of the dresses were designed with an outdoor silhouette. You will see several jacket-style frocks from Burberry this fall.
Louis Vuitton
LV is one of the most famous luxury fashion houses in the world and one of the oldest. Louis Vuitton established his business in 1854, and today, it is considered one of the most valuable fashion houses in the world. Even LV’s fashion shows merit the classiest of venues. The Fall/Winter line video was shot at the Louvre in Paris.
The 2021 Fall and Winter collection is themed around time travel. There is an emphasis on the Golden Age of Enlightenment. The fashions from 1775 to 1795 in France included gowns with low collars that were worn over a petticoat. The petticoat was displayed prominently under the skirt, which was normally worn open. Riding jackets were also in fashion for women of the day. These fashions tended to have a rectangularly panniered silhouette. Women had to wear a corset to fit into these dresses properly as they were very narrow at the waist.
The 2021 LV collection has several different blouson jackets for both men and women. They are also bringing back the bubble skirt for fall.
The line also features a collection of sack dresses that have detailed embroidery and unique designs. Some of the designs seem to have take pandemic fashions into account. There are a few slack and shirt combinations that resemble the pajamas of a person of means.
Chanel

The Chanel suit is one of the most iconic articles of clothing in modern history. Like so many other fashion houses, Chanel’s fall and winter collections have an outdoorsy look. They have several duster jackets in the collection. You will also find jumpers with halter tops made out of a puffy material and resemble ski pants.
You will also notice a throwback to traditional 1970s French chic fashions. The collection includes variations on its classic tweed suit. They still have the Chanel silhouette, but they come in various cuts and fabrics. You will see mini-dresses paired with sweaters that have the traditional Chanel silhouette. You will also find a lightweight gray mini suit that features hot pink stripes.
One of the models on this year’s virtual runway was clad in a traditional Chanel tweed jacket paired with a long see-through crepe skirt. Another model was donned in a hot pink pants suit with a traditional Chanel jacket.
Stella McCartney
This British fashion house charges a pretty penny for its collection of sustainable and vegan clothing. Ms. McCartney followed in her parent’s footsteps to become an animal rights activist. She is one of the few fashion designers to abstain from using animal materials in her clothing. However, the house was launched as part of a partnership with the Gucci (Kerig) group, and Gucci is hardly a vegetarian clothing brand.
The 2021 line blends fantasy and practicality. You will see many bold colors in the fall-winter line. If you are looking for the perfect vegan boots, you will find a pair in this collection in any color your heart desires.
2020 made everyone want to escape to a simpler time and like many fashion designers, some of the McCartney collection relies on vintage design. You will see shiny bell-bottom pants, and suit jackets with wide lapels. You will see a one-piece print jumpsuit that you could use to go out for a night on the town or wear as pajamas for a night at home.
There are a couple of oversized coats in McCartney’s collection. Unlike the other designers, the fashion line has a knit bell-bottom jumpsuit in its virtual fashion show. You will also see psychedelic patterns on jumpsuits and t-shirts alike.
Jil Sander
This German fashion house has always been known for its minimalistic look. Fashion designers Lucie and Luke Meiers adhere to that simplicity in the 2021 line. You will see shift dresses, slacks, and structured jackets in this collection.
Mr. Meijer said he created the line as an ode to freedom. The designers have shown a flair for their clothing combinations on the runway. Models were clad in such outfits as a tailored suit paired with an undershirt made of cascading diamonds.
Large jewelry pieces were paired with plain solid color t-shirts. Long necklaces were paired with casual skirt and shirt outfits. A traditional black suit was paired with a loud button-up blouse, and a plain white top was livened up with hypnotizing stripes.
It’s been a hard year for fashion, but the world is slowly getting back to normal. Fashionistas will be getting together to sip cocktails and talk about the latest trends, and they will want to look good doing it. This year’s Fall and Winter lines are fun, futuristic, and comfortable.
